One Tangled sock done.....

...and one to go. As you can see from the pictures, I took the easy way out on the foot part of the sock. When I tried the sock on, I could barely get it over my heel, and then only with alot of manipulation and tugging. I was warned that this could happen when doing fair isle knitting on a sock. So the solution (as suggested by a friend) was to do the foot in only one color so that it is stretchier. I decided doing the toe in the lime green might help tie it all together, what do you think?


This pattern had a different decrease for the toe. Instead of decreasing at the beginning and end of the top and bottom, you start out with knit 7, then k2tog for the whole row. Every other row you knit 1 less before you do the k2tog. This is the same method as on the baby hats that I just did. The toe is much rounder and I think it will fit my foot better than the traditional decreases for toes.

If you haven't seen the latest Knitty edition, you need to check it out. There is a pattern for a pair of fair isle socks - Red Herring that I think I would like to try some day. The pattern says that the leg of the sock is knit larger than the foot to help avoid the problem that I had with a tight fit over the heel.

I really enjoy the Knitty magazine. They always have several sock patterns to choose from, and there is usually at least one fancy pair of socks. Some of the clothing patterns are very interesting, i.e. this "intolerable cruelty." I don't know many people older than 20 that would be able to wear a skrt like that - I know that my hips are too "generous" to be able to wear it, Besides the fact that the fashion police would have me cuffed and in the slammer for even attempting it. I really like this wrap sweater, especially the color and the cables at the hem and cuffs. I think I will add it to my wish list of sweaters that I would like to knit some day. I also like the Mariah sweater from a past issue, again probably because I love sweaters and cables. Viveka looks like a very comfortable sweater, especially if done in a very soft yarn like maybe a Debbie Bliss - cashmerino baby??

More Finished Objects

I finished the red sweater the week after my trip to Wyoming, and finally got a chance to have someone take a picture of me in it. The sweater came out at least one size too big, even though I did a swatch before I knitted the sweater. My friend advised me to wash it in Eucalan and re-block it (I believe she said to "smoosh" the sides in to make it smaller). I hope I can smoosh it in enough so that it doesn't look so baggy on me.

I also finished the last baby hat for the neighbor's baby boy. I think I might be done with gifts for a minute. I do have some gifts to knit for Christmas that I should probably start on soon. That might be a good idea for something to take to soccer games! (To knit before the game and at half-times of course - I wouldn't want to miss seeing my son play!).

I have had family visiting since last Wed. and had a very busy weekend, but I did manage to get a little knitting time in. Actually, it was more "tink-ing" time. I though I was doing so well on the shawl that I was knitting - I was being really careful about counting the stitches after every increase row. Well I got a little cocky, and didn't count one row, and now there is one too many stitches. I have frogged back 3 rows so far and haven't found my mistake yet. It is so much easier to fix a mistake on a baby hat, than it is on lace!! I'm so frustrated, I think I need to cast on another project that is a bit easier - maybe a pair of Jaywalker socks?

Sorry about the lapse in posting, this past almost 2 weeks has kind of slipped away from me. I do have soome F.O. s to show for it though. I have several friends that have had babies, so I have been busy making gifts.


The pink socks are for baby Alyssa. They are knit with Heirloom Breeze yarn, 8 ply, Shade 020. I cast on 32 stitches and knit them with US Size 3 DPNs by Brittany. I'm hoping they will fit this little girl that is coming up on 2 months old.

The blue socks were knit for baby Noah with Lane Cervinia/ Madrid yarn that is 50% Acrylic and 50% viscose. I cast on the same number of stitches and knit with the same size 3 DPNs. I'm hoping these will fit Noah up to about 4 months old (depending on how fast he grows - he was over 10 lbs. at birth!!). I cast on several times with this pair of socks. The first time I cast on 36 stitches and the socks came out alot bigger than I wanted.

This is my first baby hat. It is knit with the same Heirloom yarn as the socks and was very quick and easy. I started knitting it on our way home from Wyoming as we were going through Yellowstone Park, and finished it the next day. One of the ladies that frequents our LYS designed the pattern. The ear flaps are knit first starting with the I-cord, and then each flap is put on an extra needle or holder until you are ready for it. After you have knit several rows of the brim, you add the flaps and knit them in with the other stitches, so there isn't any sewing involved. I can't wait to see it on Alyssa! Now I have to get busy and knit a hat for Noah.
